SPP Linux

Installation
The archive contains both Windows and Linux executables. Simply extract the archive into your preferred location. Make sure to preserve the folder names from the archive.

  • Distributions
    We have tested the SPP GSEOS software on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 10.04. Both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Other teams have also successfully run it on CentOS. It will not work on older, unsupported version of Ubuntu (<= 8.x).

    Since GSEOS is a 32-bit application you have to make sure the 32-bit libraries are installed if you are running on a 64-bit platform.

  • Fonts
    To make the transition between Windows and Linux smoother please make sure to install the MS TT Core Fonts on your system. That will ensure that the default screens render properly.

  • Opal Kelly
    It is not necessary to install any Opal Kelly drivers. The archive comes with the 32-bit Opal Kelly drivers. You don't need to install these, the only system configuration you have to make is the addition of one file to the directory:

    60-opalkelly.rules -----> /etc/udev/rules.d/

    The file 60-opalkelly.rules is in the root folder of the SPP GSEOS distribution. This file includes a generic udev rule to set the permissions on all attached Opal Kelly USB devices to allow user access. Once this file is in place, you will need to reload the rules by either rebooting or using the following command:

    /sbin/udevadm control --reload_rules

    With these files in place, the Linux device system should automatically provide write permissions to XEM devices attached to the USB.

    If you want to install the Opal Kelly FrontPanel application please use the 32-bit version. We have been running Linux as a VM and the emulator works fine in this configuration.

  • Virtual Machines
    We have been running Linux in a VM and the emulator has been tested in this configuration. We have tested this on both Windows and Mac OSX hosts.
